Jean Malise Smarilli, 97, of Monongahela, passed away on Tuesday, Feb 14, 2023, at the Presbyterian Senior Care (Woodside Place) in Washington.  Born March 27, 1925, in Monongahela, she was the daughter of Guiseppi “Joe” and Antoniette Ianno Jordano-Malise. She was a graduate of Monongahela High School and a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish (former St. Anthony Church) in Monongahela. Jean had many hobbies including being an avid gardener, bowling, playing cards, bird watching and had belonged to the Democratic Woman’s Club. A homemaker, Jean enjoyed her family and spending time with them. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James J. (Kathleen) Smarilli Jr. of Lancaster; a daughter, Jean Mellinger of New Eagle; five grandchildren, Patrick O’Hern, Bryan (Jaime) Smarilli, Robert (Beth) Mellinger, Toni (Robert) Boothe, Carly (Tim) Hunter; and eight great-grandchildren, Ella, Ford, Jacob, Jimmy, Johnny, Jordan, Reese and Brooke. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Smarilli, who died in 1993; her son-in-law, Dennis J. Mellinger, who passed away on Oct. 29, 2008; two sisters, Philomena Malise O’Dell and Mary Godlesky; along with  three stepbrothers, Dominick, Anthony and Joseph Jordan. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at which time a blessing service will begin. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Condolences can be made online at marshallmarrafuneralhome.com.
