Donald R. Miller Sr., 97, of New Eagle, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, at Dunlevy Manor, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of New Eagle, he was born on June 4, 1925. Don was the son of the late Samuel and Blanche Tyree Miller. He served stateside in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. After returning home, he worked as a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Pittsburgh and the Railway Mail service for over 33 years until his retirement. And, during those years, he also continued doing work as an electrician around the Valley even after his retirement from the post office. In August of 2015, Don joined the Morning Star Baptist Church in Clairton where he served as a deacon and was a member of both the former Ebenezer Baptist and the Second Baptist Church in Monongahela. He was a member of the Layman’s League and Monongahela Area Revitalization Committee (M.A.R.C.) and the Masonic Lodge in Monongahela. Don is survived by two sons, Donald R. Jr. (Belinda) Miller Jr. of Goodyear, Ariz., and Ronald Miller of New Eagle; a daughter, Deneen Young of New Eagle; three grandchildren, Tiffany Szakal, Lauren (Santonio) Holmes and Edward Estes of Pittsburgh; five great-grandchildren, Tyreik and Zaynah Tyree, Trayveon Henderson, Ethan Felix and Scarlett Holmes; a great-great-granddaughter Devine Tyree; sisters-in-law, Sara (Carl) Crawley of New Eagle, Trudy Ellis of Detroit and Ellie; along with a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes (Jamison) Miller, who died Dec. 31, 2011; a grandson, Cheyne E. Young, who died July 24, 2003; three brothers, Samuel Jr., Joseph and George Miller; three sisters, Ruth Fuller, Louise Thorpe and Nancy Steed. As per Don’s wishes, friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m.  Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at Morning Star Baptist Church, 307 Shaw Ave., Clairton, PA 15025. Inurnment will be held in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, at a later date. MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, is in charge of the arrangements.
