Michael Francis DeSimone, 43, of Smithton, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at Excela Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Nov. 19, 1979, in Mt. Pleasant, son of Dennis and Francine Machupa DeSimone. He was employed as a site manager for Ricoh Business Solutions. He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Perryopolis, a life member of the Smithton VFD, where he served as a former assistant chief, the William Marconi Beneficial Society, having served as a trustee, Scottdale Fireman’s Club, Smithton Borough Council and the Smithton Christmas Lights Committee. Mike “Skip” loved family, friends and life. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Francis and Margaret Machupa; paternal grandparents Anthony and Josephine DeSimone; and Max, his fur buddy. In addition to his parents, he is also survived by his sister, Angie Frederick and husband Michael of Belle Vernon; his brother, John DeSimone and wife Laura of Upper St. Clair; nieces and nephew, Lillian Margaret, his godson, Wesley Michael and Elizabeth Hope. He is also survived by his godparents, Louis DeSimone and Diane Hoenshel; was proud of his goddaughter, Kenz Pritts; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at L. L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Second St., Smithton. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Perryopolis. Anybody attending the funeral please go directly to the church. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Perry Township. Mike “Skip” will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. “I’M GOOD.”
