Raymond E. Cathers Jr. – formerly of Belle Vernon

Raymond E. Cathers Jr., 76, formerly of Belle Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023. A son of the late Raymond E. and Ruth Gilliand Cathers, he was born on Aug. 19, 1946, in North Charleroi. Raymond had resided in Huntingdon, W.Va., since 2010. A veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 659 in Belle Vernon and retired from U.S. Steel Irvin Works in 1999. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Cathers of Huntingdon, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Courtney Cathers and Brianna Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Skylar Shoemaker, Kaden Thompson and Elliot Thompson; a sister and brother in-law, Sarah and Norman Luce of Cincinnati, Ohio; and four nieces, Renee, Lynette, Bonnie and Jodi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Doreen Cathers, in 2011; and a son, Scott Cathers. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Earl Rosenbalm. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or American Legion Post 659 in Belle Vernon.
