Monessen tops Clairton for 5th straight win

Monessen used a late second-quarter surge to take a lead it never relinquished in a 53-33 victory over Clairton on the second day of the Mon Valley Independent Girls Shootout Classic at California High School Saturday. The Greyhounds (7-4) trailed 18-9 with just over four minutes left in the second quarter before they marched out on a 14-3 run to take a 23-21 advantage into the halftime break.
