Charleroi will not reopen budget

Charleroi will not reopen its budget this year — but could shuffle around funds as needed if council deems it necessary.
Finances in the borough have been a hot topic, with council eventually decided to meet in the middle and pass a spending plan with a 3 mill tax increase.
During its first agenda meeting earlier this month, Councilwoman Nancy Ellis brought up a few questions concerning the budget, which was approved at a Dec. 27 special meeting.
The spending plan adopted that night raised taxes, but not by as much as originally proposed. There had been discussion about increasing the tax rate from 6.85 to 12.85 mills.
