Richard L. Charlton Sr., 80, of Monongahela, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. He was born July 23, 1942, in New Eagle, the son of Edward and May Neill Charlton. Richard was a member of First United Methodist Church in Monongahela. He was a peacetime veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Richard retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Allenport after 35 years of employment. He was a member of the NRA and the Mingo Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by two sons, Christopher and David Charlton; nine grandchildren, David Jr., Joseph, Samantha, Angela, Keely, RJ and Kelly Charlton, Amy Leanne Swank and Derrick Andress; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Kelly Charlton, who died June 6, 2000; and a son, Richard L. Charlton Jr. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 West Main St., Monongahela, with the Rev. Jude Urso officiating. Interment will be private in Monongahela Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
