Margaret “Lorraine” Baker, 94, of Carroll Township, Pa., passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2023. She was born in Donora on Feb. 12, 1923, but lived most of her life in Eldora, in the big stone house that she loved. Lorraine was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. She graduated from Donora High School and dedicated herself to keeping up with classmates, helping to arrange reunions and get togethers. She was a very talented, self-taught seamstress, but also enjoyed painting and crafting (often in collaboration with her husband Leo), including handmade greeting cards for friends and family and beautiful yearly Christmas ornaments for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Hede Gruessner; husband of 66 years, Leo Baker; granddaughter, Tracey Jean Perrin/Kocik; brother, Warren Gruessner; and sister-in-law, Rita Gruessner. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barbara (Ron) Winder of Stuart, Fla., and Peggy (Jim Norwich) Perrin of Murrysville, Pa.; granddaughter, Amy Perrin; great grandson, Dustyn Perrin; several nieces and nephews; dear friend, Karen Sukel, whom Lorraine thought of as her third daughter; and Cynthia “Red” Lewis, her beloved caregiver and friend. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish Donora Campus.
