Cecilia Sciortino, 103, of Charleroi, went to Heaven with our Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022. She passed peacefully in her home. She was born May 28, 1919, in Charleroi and is the wife of the late Joseph V. Sciortino Sr. of Charleroi; they married in July 1946. Joseph, her husband, predeceased her in 2002. She is the daughter of the late Harry and Pauline Pennline of Charleroi and was the last surviving member of Harry’s children. Cecilia is a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Charleroi. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Jr. and Shirley Sciortino of Millersville, Md., and Henry and Lynn Sciortino of West Chester, Pa.; 12 grandchildren, Joseph V. Sciortino III and wife Michele, Drs. Christopher Sciortino and wife Vanessa, John Sciortino, Amy Crichton and husband Troy, Catherine Sciortino, Joshua Weaver and wife Chandra; and her seven great-grandchildren, Emily Sciortino, Francis Sciortino, Julie Sciortino, Miles Crichton, Tyler Crichton, Josiah Weaver and Seth Weaver. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Margret “Marge” (Kinder) Pennline of Charleroi; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, godchildren and cousins. In addition to her parents, Cecilia was preceded in death by her siblings, Cecilia (infant child), Margaret “Helen,” Anthony “Tony,” Henry “Gouch,” Paul, Rosina “Rose” and Herman. Cecilia was a stay-at-home housewife with a passion for caring for and serving her parents, siblings and their children. She was devoted to her family and friends’ well-being and gave generously of her time, talent and food. She was a devoted Catholic and followed her mother in the role of matriarch of the family and gave of herself freely and selflessly in that role. As with her mother, she was devoted to the Blessed Mother and family, which was her only priority to the end of her life. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez, funeral director. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Charleroi. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022, in honor and devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary.
