William McLaren Monro Jr. – Allison Park, formerly of Rostraver Township

William McLaren Monro Jr., 91, of Allison Park (Terrace Place at Vincentian), formerly of Rostraver Township, died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at AHN Wexford Hospital. Bill was born on March 18, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., son of the late William and Mary McKenzie Monro. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sandra Garenia Monro; and by his children, William III (Deb Hunter), Karen and Mary Ann; and his beloved grandchildren, Emily Kabir (Nafees), Theresa Walker (Paul Dascani) and Audrey MonroNeely. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Phyllis and Dorothy; and his son-in-law, Russell. Bill graduated from McKeesport High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with Westinghouse Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory for 39 years and in retirement worked at Parzynski Funeral Home in Belle Vernon for over 30 years. He enjoyed being a gentleman farmer and staying involved in local politics. Bill was a former member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, where he spent many hours volunteering his time. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus No. 3026, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and coached girls softball and Little League baseball teams. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Prayers of transfer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston as celebrant. Interment will later take place in Olive Branch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Vincentian Home may be sent to www.vcfgives.org/donate/.
