Lawrence L. Yohe, 75, of Washington, Pa., formerly of Ginger Hill, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, in Washington Hospital. He was born Feb. 26, 1947, in Washington, son of Marcus G. and Martha “Mary Ann” Ruth Strosnider Yohe. Larry graduated from Charleroi High School in 1965. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army for three years. During his time in the Army, he served two tours in Vietnam, earned the rank of SP5 and received the Bronze Star. After returning home, he attended Duquesne University, graduating with a Master of Science in Criminology. He then served with the Pennsylvania State Police for 12 years in the Ebensburg and Greensburg areas. After retiring from the Pennsylvania State Police, he continued with his expertise in law enforcement, working with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) as an on-highway investigator. During his 23 years with the NTSB, he worked in Seattle, Los Angeles and Denver. He later went on to work for Greyhound/ABC in safety consultant expert testimony for five years, retiring in 2015. One of Larry’s greatest pleasures in life was when he was behind the wheel of his “Silver Eagle” bus. He was happy with any opportunity he had to take family and friends on bus trips with him. It didn’t matter whether the destination was far or near, with a large group of passengers for special events or just a few people for a joyride. Larry also had a love for trains. He traveled all across the country by train and bus for over 50 years, enjoying every minute of it! Larry acquired many lifelong friendships along the way. Larry was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadowlands. He became a Catholic convert because of his belief in the Eucharist. He found great joy in attending Mass. He loved and served his Lord Jesus by living out his faith in his everyday life. Larry was a friend to anyone he met, always lending a helping hand to all. Larry had a very special friend, Elaine, who was devoted to him. Larry and Elaine shared their Catholic faith together, making it a focus in their friendship. They enjoyed ministering to residents in senior care facilities through their joy of singing together. They also enjoyed some train trips and, of course, riding on the Silver Eagle! He is survived by three brothers and a sister, Mark Yohe and wife Sandy of Fredericktown, Tom Yohe and wife Donna of Jefferson Hills, Cindy Taylor and companion Arnie Brock of Sewickley, and Dave Yohe and wife Jennifer of Ginger Hill; brother-in-law, the Rev. William Lusk of Bentleyville; devoted friend, Elaine Passarello; nieces and nephews, Billy, Steve, Amy, Danny, Mark, Tanya, Christina, Mike, Nathan, and Brennan. Larry was a beloved brother, uncle and great-uncle to his family! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Lusk; and nephew, Thomas M. Yohe. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. There will be additional visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at Journey by Grace Church, 4803 State Route 51 N., Rostraver Township, PA 15012, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Ginger Hill, with military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
