John Joseph Leputa – Donora

John Joseph Leputa, 97, of Donora, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Dec. 27, 1925, in North Charleroi, he was the son of the late George and Helen Wojtowicz Leputa. A lifelong resident of Donora, Mr. Leputa was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He owned and operated numerous businesses in Donora, was a lifelong Steelers fan and longtime season ticket holder, was an avid reader, and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Svercek Leputa, to whom he was married 67 years; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph John and Terri Matthews Leputa of Dayton, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Kelle Leputa and Joseph Leputa, both of Dayton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Leputa and Joseph Leputa; and three sisters, Mary Tomich, Cecelia Tegi and Louise Dutko. Relatives and friends will gather directly at St. Sebastian R.C. Church for a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Friday Jan. 6, 2023, with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston as celebrant.
