The City of Monessen will open two warming centers by noon today.
Mayor Ron Mozer announced the warming center openings during last night’s council meeting, which began with a prayer from the Rev. John Custer, who is pastor at one of the warming centers — Orchard Christian Fellowship Church at the corner of Eighth Street and Schoonmaker Avenue.
The second warming location will be at the city’s Civic Center on Donner Avenue.
The wind chill warning began this morning at 6 a.m. and is expected to expire around noon Saturday, but Mozer said the warming centers will be open until it is safe for people to return to their homes. Wind chills could go as low as 30 below zero, according to the National Weather Service, and wind gusts could reach 50mph. There will also likely be snow and icy road conditions.
