Janice S. Dietz, 81, of Fitz Henry, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. A daughter of the late Rev. Thomas E. Akester and Dema Barber Akester, she was born in Evansville, Ind., on March 11, 1941. Formerly of the state of Indiana, Janice has been a resident of Fitz Henry since 1967. She was a member of the Grandview Church of God in Smithton and attended regularly for many years.  Janice was an avid piano player and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Melody and Robert Hyzy of Ruffsdale, and Georganna and Eric Zawalsh of Mt. Pleasant; a son and daughter in-law, George and Angela Dietz Jr. of West Newton; and 10 grandchildren, Holly Hyzy, Heather Hyzy, Ronnie Zawalsh, Cayden Zawalsh, Tristan Zawalsh, George Dietz III, Brianna Zawalsh, Elizabeth Dietz, Hayden Hyzy and Edison Dietz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Dietz, on Oct. 24, 2000; and a brother, Charley O. Akester, on June 20, 2017. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Frank Todaro officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
