Dennis Vincent Godfrey – Monessen, formerly Donora
Dennis Vincent Godfrey, 71, was surrounded by family as he transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly one on Dec. 5, 2022, 15 and a half months after the love of his life, Nancy Godfrey, transitioned and 12 months after his youngest son, David, had joined her. Dennis had struggled with heart disease for over a third of his life and it eventually brought his life to an end. Dennis began his earthly existence on Aug. 25, 1951, as the son of Lewis Eugene and Della Godfrey. He was the only son and youngest child. Dennis was the husband to the love of his life, Nancy, to whom he had been married for 50 years before her passing. They had three children, Rachel, Christopher and David; and Tanya Blair, whom they welcomed into their home and loved as their own. Dennis was also a beloved uncle, cousin, friend and mentor to everyone who had the privilege to know him. Dennis graduated from Donora High School in 1970 and had worked numerous jobs throughout his life, the longest being with Fox Grocery/Super-Valu, where he worked many years in the freezer loading frozen foods onto delivery trucks. He also loved his Pittsburgh sports teams and could always be found watching, cheering, and critiquing the Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and Panthers. Nothing compared to the love he had for his family. He adored his wife and children and would do anything for them. In fact, throughout his entire life, he sacrificed and worked long hours to provide for them. He loved to serve those he loved and could always be counted on to go above and beyond what was needed or required. He even was considered a “favorite” uncle by many of his nieces and nephews. Dennis was a loyal and founding member of the HOPE Church, located in Belle Vernon, where he could be found quietly leading from the background. He poured his heart and soul into growing the church by faithfully following Pastor Marton’s mantra: “to tell somebody about Jesus.” This easily led him to co-finding the ministry known as Rivers of Healing Ministries with his wife and daughter, where he found great joy in praying for others and teaching others how to pray, too. Dennis is survived by his children, Rachel Lynn, Christopher Michael and Tanya Blair; his sister, Ida Jean Godfrey; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Nancy; and his son, David. Friends and family will be received at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022, from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, followed by an 11 a.m. celebration of Dennis’s life inside the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Marton, of HOPE Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Hope Church Building Fund in Dennis’ honor. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hogan-melenyzer.com.
