Monessen council passed a preliminary 2023 budget Monday that holds the line on spending and taxes.
Director of Accounts and Finances Councilman Tony Orzechowski presented a draft spending plan Monday night that calls for the tax millage to remain at 43.11.
The budget, which council plans to approve in its final state at the regular Dec. 22 meeting, plans for $4.8 million in general fund expenses, $409,827 in debt service and $206,928 dedicated to parks and recreation spending.
The millage is divided into four categories — 29.99 mills goes toward the general fund, 8.14 mills goes toward the debt service and 4.11 mills are collected for parks and recreation purposes.
Additionally, the .87 millage collected specifically for the library fund is expected to bring in $43,802 next year.
Mayor Ron Mozer said Orzechowski did an excellent job on next year’s budget and on holding the line on spending throughout 2022.
