This time of year was especially important to the late Peter J. Daley II, as the longtime state representative spent many years donating his time to ensure families in the Mon Valley had a Thanksgiving Day meal.
While his many friends and family are still mourning Daley’s passing on June 1, his church is looking to keep his legacy alive by continuing a holiday outreach initiative he helped start. United Christian Church, the Coal Center church where Daley was a lifelong member, is once again holding a food drive on Saturday.
Officially named “The Peter J. Daley Memorial Thanksgiving Dinner Drive-By Food Distribution,” the church’s minister Amory Merriman says that the choice of name is fitting. “It made perfect sense; he’s a really good person who brought the idea to the table,” Merriman said.
The distribution, which will be at two locations at the church at 499 E. Malden Drive, Coal Center and also The Hollywood Pavillion on Third Street in California, will begin at 2 p.m.
