Florence Helen Keyes – Murrysville, formerly of White Oak

Florence Helen Keyes, age 98, of Murrysville, formerly of White Oak, died on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022. She was born in McKeesport on Aug. 12, 1924, and is the daughter of the late Emory and Veronica Koteles Shavinsky and the wife of the late John Bober Keyes, who died on May 11, 2004. Prior to retirement, she operated the John Keyes Market in McKeesport, with her late husband and prior to that was employed at Westinghouse Air Brake office in Wilmerding. She was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, Corpus Christi Church, the Christian Mothers, Rosary Society, Corpus Christi Seniors, LifeSpan Mon Valley Senior Center in Olympia Shopping Center and a home rosary group for over 25 years. Before this, she was a member of St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church in McKeesport. Her love of family, God, her Catholic faith and many friends were most important to her. She is survived by her children, John W. (Marian) Keyes of Murrysville, and Judy (Al) Hornfeck of Murrysville; four granddaughters, who were the love of her life, watching them grow into successful young women, Natalie (Brian) Nevi, Margaret (Nicholas) Wanke, Anne (Tyler) Sowell and Rebecca (Kurtis) Michael; her precious great-grandchildren, Alexander and Evelyn Nevi (twins), Nathan and Annie Wanke, Bennett and Elliott Sowell and Lucy and James Michael; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Emory; John; William; and Stephen Shavinsky; and sisters, Betty Smith; Elizabeth; Agnes; and Helen Shavinsky. Family and friends will gather at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES INC., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177) at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, until 11 a.m. when a blessing service will be held in the funeral home chapel by Msgr. Michael Begolly. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at noon for committal services to take place.
