Charleroi wants appraisal of water/sewage authority

Charleroi Council hopes to work together with the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi to see what its assets are worth.
But, it appears leaders at the authority are not in agreement with the proposal and raised concerns about the possible sale of the authority’s operations. In February, council approved a motion to allow borough engineers to draft a request for proposals to see what the authority and other borough assets are worth.
That appraisal, if conducted by engineers, would have cost anywhere between $30,000 to $50,000, and did not move forward because of the cost.
Last week, council heard from Ryan Hayes, senior manager of business development for Pennsylvania American Water, who said the company is interested in working with the borough and the authority to provide an evaluation of the communities’ water and wastewater assets and infrastructure.
