It’s Etched in Stone: When Halloween was all about the tricks for mischievous boys

Nearing the end of my ninth decade, I am thankful that most of the methods and way we celebrated Halloween are, indeed, a thing of the past.
I would not appreciate cleaning soaped-up windows, nor would I care to hear the tick-tock sound at my door coming from a homemade notched spool that —when wound with a strong cord and pulled —would render a loud, clicking noise on the front doors. Of course, when that door was answered, the imps who created the ruckus were long gone. Then, of course, there was the handfuls of corn kernels we would toss at windows, doorways and front porches.
