Joseph Stephen Szalko Jr., age 71, of Port Vue, died on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022. He was born in McKeesport on Oct. 27, 1950 and is the son of the late Joseph Stephen Sr. and Katherine Lytle Szalko. He was a 1969 graduate of Duquesne High School and was employed at U.S. Steel, Edgar Thompson Plant, in their railroad division. Joseph was very good in baseball in his younger years and played semi-pro for the Zemps. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and coins and watching sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He also loved animals, especially his cat, Charlie. He is survived by his sister, Cathy (the late Leo) Petrulli of McKeesport; nephews, Leo Ryan (Natalia) Petrulli of North Huntingdon, and Lyle Frank Petrulli of McKeesport; great-nieces, Emma Petrulli and Avianna Petrulli; and great-nephews, Noah Petrulli and Leo Steven Petrulli. The immediate family gathered on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022, and prayers were officiated by Pastor Michael Ryan at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177).
