By obits

John McKinstry Marshall, 81, of King George, Va., formerly of Belle Vernon, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. John was born Dec. 29, 1940, in McKeesport, to John McKinstry and Lazella E. Brenneman Marshall. After serving in the U.S. Navy and living and working in North Carolina with his brother, Chuck, he met and married Mildred Ruth Boyer. They remained married until her unfortunate passing in 1989. When he was not working as a Warehouseman at SuperValu Inc in Belle Vernon, John volunteered at Rostraver EMS as an EMT, coached softball, watched sports, went camping and hiking with family and bowling with his friends. After retiring, he traveled monthly to King George, Va., to spend time with his daughter Jennifer, son-in-law, DJ and grandson Tre. Together they traveled, parasailed, ziplined, built Lego and puzzles, gardened and cheered for one of his favorite teams, the Steelers. He was an avid NASCAR fan and traveled to the Monster Mile in Dover, Del., twice a year with Jennifer and Tre. He is and will always be beloved as the grandfather “Pap” who showed us how to be adventurous through hiking and camping and brave by parasailing and ziplining, how to be patient through puzzles and building Lego, how to be supportive by cheering on the Steelers and most of all, how to be the greatest father and Pap. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Daniel “DJ” Watson of King George, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and John Matlock of West Newton; and grandson, Daniel Lee “Tre” Watson III. He was preceded in death by his wife of 16 years; and brother, Ralph Charles “Chuck” Marshall. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Private interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Condolences accepted at the funeral home’s website, www.parzynskifuneralhome.com.
