Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Lou Yowan – Monongahela

By obits

Elizabeth “Betty” Lou Yowan joined her loving husband, Robert, on Sept. 30, 2022. Betty, 91, was the youngest of three children born to Gladys Yohe Stahlman and Dr. S. Chester Stahlman, former mayor of Monongahela. Betty married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Yowan on May 17, 1952. They celebrated 69 years of a loving marriage and raised three children together. Betty worked for Rust Engineering Corporation, Penn State University and Akzo Chemicals in administrative support roles. At Akzo Chemicals Betty handled national and international shipping duties in addition to secretarial work. Betty and Bob were active supporters of the University of Pittsburgh, both serving as Pitt Ambassadors and members of the Team Pittsburgh organization.  Betty served as the Treasurer and Secretary of the Mon Valley Chapter of the Golden Panthers organization and was recognized as Pitt Golden Panther of the Year. Betty also served as national secretary of the 487th Bomb Group Auxiliary, and was a member of the DAV Auxiliary and the New Eagle AARP.  Betty also served in various committee roles with Grace Lutheran Church where she continued as a faithful member. Betty’s greatest love and accomplishments were her family. Betty was an engaged mother, serving in leadership roles in both the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. Betty and Bob’s home was often filled with neighborhood children, extended family and warm cookies. Betty lovingly allowed the backyard to serve as a baseball diamond. She was a proud Pitt Panthers and Penguins hockey fan. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; her brothers, Jack and Bill and their spouses; along with a granddaughter, Megan Crowley. Betty is survived by her children, Susan (Dan) Crowley and their daughter Maura; David (Cynthia) and children, Michael, Christopher (daughter Genie), Vivian, Steven and Patrick; Tim (Andrea) and children, Lindsey and Tyler. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and good friends, including her lifelong friend, Mary Ellen (Biz) Bell. Special thanks to Joyce Odell and Bertie and George Poziviak for their loving care and support to Betty. Mom, thank you for your love, kindness and lifelong guidance. We will miss you. Friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767. Additional visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home followed by a funeral service at Grace Lutheran Church, 911 Howard St., beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Matthew Stabe officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Grace Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be made at marshallmarrafuneralhome.com.
