Mary Jane Mavrakis Quinn – Monessen

By obits

Mary Jane Mavrakis Quinn, born May 31, 1935, passed away peacefully at her Monessen home on July 27, 2022. Mary Jane was a daughter of the late Alex and Alma Fontaine Mavrakis and lived most of her life in Monessen. During her 30 years of marriage, she raised four children. MJ felt fortunate that all her children settled in neighboring communities so she could see her family often. After raising her children, she began a life of service to others. She was a home health aide to seniors with the W.H.O. organization in Greensburg, and then worked as a case manager with Westmoreland County Children and Youth Services, assisting families in need of life skills training and keeping children out of foster care. She then worked as the social coordinator at a local housing unit serving 96 families in need. In this capacity, she created a safety program for seniors, a preschool for children, a drug and alcohol program for local residents, a soup kitchen, a bingo for residents, as well as purchasing computers to assist residents with employment opportunities. After retirement, she volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul. She was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church of Monessen. She is survived by her three children, Keith and wife Kimberly Quinn, Mark and wife Regina Quinn and Dawn Quinn; her grandchildren, Nikki and Matthew Miller, Samantha Quinn, Deana Hill, Jeffrey Hill, Michael Quinn, Marquise Quinn and Kaylee Quinn; great-grandchildren, Olivia Peralta, Darius Quinn and Sophia and Liam Miller. Preceding her in death were her beloved daughter, Lori Quinn; and her two sisters, Leah Terensky and Evangaline Niehaus. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022. Funeral services will be held Wednesday with a blessing service in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Monessen, with Father Michael Crookston officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Monessen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made to Monessen Public Library, which provided so much to MJ when her sight began to fail. Thank you and God bless.
