A former mayor of Monessen is accused of libel and slander by a current city councilman for comments made in public meetings, in news articles, on social media and in the mayor’s own blog.
Councilman Anthony Orzechowski, who is represented by attorney Steve Toprani, filed the suit in Westmoreland County Court Tuesday against former mayor Matt Shorraw. According to the suit, Orzechowski and Shorraw were political opponents and Orzechowski admits to being often critical of Shorraw during his “well-documented nearly two-year absence from office, which Mr. Orzechowski considered a dereliction of duty.”
