Frank Weir, 85, of Donora, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022, after a short illness at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital in Carroll Township. He was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Donora, son of the late Joseph Weir and the late Dolly (Bruno) Weir. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, American Legion Post 212 in Donora, where he held several posts over the years, the American Croatian Citizens Club, American Rusin Political and Beneficial Club and the Eagles Aerie FOE 502, all of Donora. He was also a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. Frank was a graduate of Donora High School, Class of 1954, after which he attended California State College, graduating with a degree in mathematics. His teaching career led him to Bentworth Junior High School, where he remained until his retirement. For many summers, he worked as a boat mechanic. Frank was also a talented clarinet and saxophone player and entertained with several local bands. He enjoyed picking up his newspapers every day, having coffee and playing cards with his friends, going to the horse races at the Meadows, scratch-off lottery tickets and going to the casino. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James “Moe” Weir. Surviving to cherish his memory are his two sisters, Carol Weir of Donora and Mary (Greg) McFeeley of Mt. Pleasant; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2022. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2022, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Donora Campus. Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. A special thank you to the priests of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish and the nursing staff of the ICU and third floor at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital.
