John T. Golomb Jr., 95, of Monessen, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022, in his home, which he built from scratch with the help of his father, father-in-law and many friends. He was born in Monessen on Jan. 1, 1927, son of the late John and Pauline Choban Golomb. In 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy and was sent to the Pacific Theater, where he worked on Saipan and Tinian as an electrician who worked on the naval aircraft fleet. John was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church of Monessen and the Holy Name Society. He had volunteered with the former Meals on Wheels program with his late wife, Angela. He had been a teacher at Ellsworth Schools, and then Chartiers Valley School District, where he retired in 1993 after 35 years of passing on knowledge to the younger generations. He took his love of education and continued to pass on his knowledge by instructing students in the St. Mary’s CCD Programs. Preceding him in death was his late wife of 67 years, Angela Vingas Golomb. Surviving are son, John F. Golomb of Monessen; son, Charles Golomb and wife Lesley Sprigg of Matthews, N.C.; daughter, Cynthia Golomb and husband Gilbert Escauriza of Bal Harbour, Fla.; daughter, Susan Golomb of Uniontown; and son, Jerome Golomb of Miami, Fla; six grandchildren, Kristin, Joshua, Shannon, Natalie, Jocelyn and Noelle; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Ernie Vingas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2022. A Parish Rosary will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. A Panachida Service will begin at 10 a.m. in the funeral home Monday, July 11, 2022, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church of Monessen with Father Stephen Wahal officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rostraver Township.
