By obits

Marjorie Ruth McLauchlan Metcalf, formerly of New Eagle, Pa., passed away on June 9, 2022, at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Metcalf, who died in 2014. Ruth lived with her daughter, Sharon Roush, after her husband died, and Sharon was with her at the time of her death. Ruth was born in Andover, Mass., daughter of the late Alexander McLauchlan and Elizabeth McCrorey McLauchlan. She is survived by two loving sisters, Isabel Hibbs of Gulfport, Miss., and Ernestine Steinberg of Meadville, Pa. Her brothers, Donald, Robert, David and William preceded her in death. Mrs. Metcalf was the mother of seven children, Nancy Myers of Colorado, Dawn Metcalf (Joe Messina) of Andover, Mass., Judith Metcalf (deceased), Sharon Roush of Winston Salem, N.C., Barbara Sorensen (Steve) of Warren, Pa., Paula Lazar of Jamaica Plain, Mass., and Jonathan (Wendy Taylor) of Waynesboro, Pa. She also cared for several grandchildren for periods of time when she was needed. She has 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Ruth was a member of the Bunola and Monongahela Church of the Nazarene and turned faithfully to the Bible in times of trouble and distress. She was a talented seamstress, making clothing for her children and grandchildren, including Halloween costumes, sewing draperies for her home and helping neighbors with mending and special projects. She continued hand embroidery and knitting until her eyesight prevented it. She enjoyed reading, telephone conversations with family and friends, extended visits to her children each summer, but most especially she loved her daily visits with Kate Beroth, her beloved great-granddaughter. A memorial service is planned for a date in the future.
