Manuel J. Monios Jr., 93, formerly of Monessen, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, June 3, 2022, at his son’s home in West Newton He was born on Feb. 26, 1929, in Monessen, son of the late Manuel K. and Lottie (Sarbiewski) Monios. Manuel lived in Monessen most of his life, was a graduate of Monessen High School and attended Douglas Business School. He worked in the office of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. at its Monessen plant for a year before enlisting in the Army in 1948 and served his country until 1952. Upon returning to Monessen, he worked in the blast furnace department until his retirement in 1987. Manuel was Catholic by faith and attended Mass at many local churches. He served the City of Monessen as an alderman and as city controller. Manuel enjoyed gambling, horse racing, eating out, visiting friends, watching sports and later on, watching TV and listening to music. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gust W. (Marie) Monios; and by his loving companion of many years, Agnes Wagner. Surviving are his three children, Michele (Dr. Lance) DeFrancisco of Hollidaysburg, Pa., Michael Monios, with whom he resided in West Newton, and Marian (Meg) Clevenstine of Altoona, Pa.; five grandchildren, Carly Clevenstine (Dustin) Mazon of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Dr. Daniel (Dr. Frances Adachi) DeFrancisco of Denver, Colo., Nyssa Clevenstine (Tegid) Watkin of Sheffield, United Kingdom, Dr. David (Nicole) DeFrancisco of Denver, Colo., and Aaron Monios of West Newton; three great-grandchildren, Luca and Zosha DeFrancisco and Aneira Watkin; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022, and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday June 8, 2022, at DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the funeral home with Father David J. Nazimek officiating. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery, Monessen. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, stjude.org, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
