Woodrow W. Jones Jr. – Belle Vernon

By obits

Woodrow W. Jones Jr., who was born on Dec. 31, 1949, originally of Allenport, went home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2022. Known to many as Woody, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and making those around him smile and laugh. Woody was the son of the late Woodrow W. Jones Sr. and Elma Lofton Jones of Allenport. He was a long-term resident of Long Branch prior to his relocation to North Belle Vernon. Woody graduated from California Area School District as an athlete in wrestling, football, and baseball. Following graduation, Woody attended automotive school before enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War. He spent most of his career working at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and several state correctional institutions. After 38 years, Woody finished his career as a lieutenant correctional officer at SCI Fayette. His time following retirement consisted of gun bashes, smoking and grilling some of the best tasting meats and spending time with his family and friends. Woody leaves to cherish his loving wife, Iva “Sissy” Jones; one daughter, Erica Jones of Belle Vernon; and two sons, Aaron Jones of Long Branch and Michael Jones of Pittsburgh. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind one stepsister, Mildred Woodson of Hilliard, Ohio; and a brother-in-law, Michael McDowell and wife Renee McDowell of Donora. Woody’s big heart and contagious smile were shared with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and devoted friends. Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2022, at Antioch Baptist Church, 945 Henry St., Belle Vernon, where a funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. The eulogy will be given by Jackie Butler, the pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Belle Vernon. The service will be followed by interment in Mon Valley Memorial Park with military services conducted by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. Final celebrations are entrusted to MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, PA 15063, 724-258-6767, marshallmarrafuneralhome.com.
