Sonya B. Spaw – formerly of Connellsville

Sonya B. Spaw, 84, formerly of Connellsville, died Thursday, May 26, 2022, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was born July 24, 1937, in Charleroi, daughter of the late John and Helen Mandor Milkent. Sonya was a graduate of Charleroi High School. She formerly worked at the Connellsville Thorofare Supermarket and then later at Shop and Save. She also worked in the cafeteria at Geibel High School for many years. She loved traveling with her husband and she was a member of St. Rita’s Roman Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers. She is survived by two sons, Mark Spaw and his fiancée Debra Lint of Connellsville, and Jeffrey Spaw and his wife Dee of Connellsville; her four grandchildren, Sean Spaw, Corey Spaw, Kaylee Spaw Cross and her husband Michael and Morgan Spaw and his wife Jen; her four great-grandchildren, Layla, Karter, Baker and Madison; and one sister, Janet of Monessen. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wendell L. Spaw; and one brother, Bernard Milkent. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Rita’s R.C. Church with the Rev. Paul Lisik as celebrant.
