Black’s bomb, Karp’s arm lead Eagles

Serra Catholic came into its WPIAL first-round game against Beth-Center as a big favorite over No. 16 Beth-Center at Greater Latrobe High School. But someone forgot to tell the Bulldogs. Beth-Center put up three runs in the first inning and had the Eagles deadlocked into the fifth, but Zach Black and Zach Karp made their presence felt late as top-seeded Serra Catholic survived for a 9-4 win to advance to Thursday’s WPIAL quarterfinals.
