Lois M. Burkey Pekonen, 85, of Mount Pleasant, East Huntingdon Township, wife of Robert R. “Bob” Pekonen, passed away at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant. Lois was born May 2, 1936, in Smithton, daughter of the late Edward and Garnet Smith Burkey. She married Robert R. “Bob” Pekonen on Oct. 19, 1957. Lois was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She graduated from South Huntingdon High School, Class of 1955. She was a member, along with her husband, of Fairview Church of God. She worshiped there, sang in the choir and was a soloist for many weddings and funerals through the years. Louis enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling to the Dutch Country and had a fond affection toward animals and her pets. Lois will be sadly missed by her loving family; her husband of 64 years, Robert R. “Bob” Pekonen; her two daughters, LuAnn Pekonen of Greensburg and Lorraine Zuraw and husband Rick of Las Vegas, Nev.; her brother, Robert Burkey and wife Paulette of Ruffs Dale; her sister-in-law, Jane Hahn and husband John of Perryopolis; and her nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Lewis Burkey. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, www.fergusonfunerals.com. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2022, and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2022, in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Dana Clay officiating. Chapel committal service and interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Animal Friends of Westmoreland, 216 Depot St., Youngwood, PA 15697. Love Lasts Forever!
