Kenneth M. Barbao Sr. – Donora

Kenneth M. Barbao Sr., 90, of Donora, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022, at Mon Valley Care Center, Carroll Township. He was born in Donora on Jan. 14, 1932, son of the late Joseph Barbao and the late Catherine Wyne Barbao. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Rumora; and a brother, Joe Barbao. Mr. Barbao was a veteran, serving his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Kenneth received the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal for his honorable service with the Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 212 in Donora, the Croatian Club in Donora and was a member of the former Spanish Club and the former Donora Elks Club. Ken was an avid fisherman and golfer, as well as having a love for baseball. Ken played for the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league team from 1951-52 and again after his time in the service from 1955-56. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Elma Lee Sandy Barbao; three sons, Eric Barbao of California, Kenneth Barbao Jr. of Donora and Thomas (Audra) Barbao of Donora; five grandchildren, Jessie Lee, Nick, Brayden, Ava and Elle; and several nieces and nephews. At the request of the family, private visitation and services were held, followed by interment at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, with full military rites accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Forbes Trail Chapter of Trout Unlimited, P.O. Box 370, Youngstown, PA 15696, in Mr. Barbao’s name.
