Mary Frances Hopko Legin, 93, of Port Vue, died April 12, 2022, at UPMC Mercy Hospital. Born March 30, 1929, in Braddock, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna Barlog Hopko and the beloved wife for 53 years of the late George T. Legin Jr. Mary Frances graduated from Braddock High School in 1946, and she was a graduate of Braddock Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She worked as a registered nurse at Braddock General Hospital and McKeesport Hospital until her retirement. Mary Frances was a member of Saints Joachim and Anne Parish, formerly Saint Joseph Parish and Saint Mark Parish, where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and Ladies Guild and volunteered as a weekly money counter and parish festival worker. She was also a former member and past president (three terms) of the Port Vue Senior Citizens. Mary Frances was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association Branch S218, where she served as a branch officer for many years. She was also an active member of the South Allegheny Band Parents, where she served as president and in other leadership roles. For the past three years, Mary Frances resided at Fair Oaks Senior Living, where she enjoyed many activities, including bingo and playing cards. Mary Frances was the loving, kind, caring, appreciative and proud mother of Cynthia (Michael) Legin-Bucell of Edinboro, Chris (Gene) Komondor of North Huntingdon, Tom (Kristin) Legin of Gahanna, Ohio, Cathy (Tom) Esack of Port Vue and Natalie (Mark) Metz of Mount Lebanon. She cherished her grandchildren, Mallory Bucell, Hilary Bucell, Kate Komondor, Sara (Joel) Letham, Ashley Legin, Joseph Legin and Justin Metz. She is also survived by a nephew, Bob (Denise) Tovlin; and niece, Marcia Nicolazzo. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Florence (Thomas) Layton; and nephew, Tim Layton. Family and friends may be received at WILLIG FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 220 Ninth St., McKeesport, PA 15132, from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2022. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Saints Joachim and Anne Parish, St. Eugene Church, Liberty Borough. Committal prayers and burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Port Vue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Saints Joachim and Anne Ladies of Charity, 101 McLay Dr., Elizabeth, PA 15037.
