Barbara Anne DiFilippo Popelas – Roscoe
Barb DiFilippo Popelas passed away peacefully at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at the age of 65, surrounded by her immediate family. Barb Popelas was born to the late Philip and Margaret DiFilippo of Rosoce on Nov. 29, 1956. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Roscoe before becoming a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Charleroi. Barb was a life-long member of her “card club.” While she did work outside the home at Mon Valley Hospital for 27 years, her true passion was being a mom and gram. She found joy in raising her children, spending time with family and friends and making others laugh. Her laugh was contagious, and her wit was a gift. Barb was a loving wife, mother, “Gram” to her grandchildren and a genuine friend to so many. Barb is survived by her husband, Andrew H. Popelas; son, Andrew J. Popelas (wife Jennifer) of Charleroi; daughter, Chaley R. Knight of Waynesburg, Pa., and Adam Knight of Waynesburg, Pa. She is also survived by her four beloved grandchildren, Christian Popelas and Chatham, Oliver and Simon Knight; and her eldest brother, Anthony DiFilippo (wife Karen) of Florida. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Philip, John and James DiFilippo; and her youngest daughter, Lindsey Marie Popelas. Barb was a pillar of strength within her family, and her absence will always be felt. Barb’s family has peace knowing the JOY she is now experiencing as she has been reunited with her daughter, her sweet Lindsey. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022, at MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2022, at St. Andrew the Apostle Church Charleroi with the Rev. Gerald Mikonis as celebrant. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lindsey Marie Memorial Scholarship through California University of Pennsylvania. Online condolences may be expressed at www.melenyzer.com.
