Francis Richard ‘Dick’ Miale – formerly of Monongahela

Francis Richard “Dick” Miale, 75, of Cleveland, Ga., formerly of Monongahela, died Saturday, March 26, 2022, in his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 18, 1946, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Francis M. and Ruth A. Ewing Miale. “Dick” graduated in 1964 from Monongahela High School, where he served as president of his class and student council and earned conference and state all-star recognition in football and basketball. He earned a football scholarship and varsity letters, as well as a bachelor’s degree at the University of Pittsburgh, Class of 1968. He worked 47 years in the steel and wire industry, including as vice president of sales at Industrial Alloys in California and Koswire Inc. in Georgia, retiring in 2016. Dick. along with his wife, Shirley, relocated four times, maintaining friends in Massachusetts, Indiana, California and Georgia. His hobbies were boating and collector cars, with membership in a Model A Ford club and the Mt. Yonah Cruisers. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Laughlin Miale, with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage on Dec. 6, 2021; two sons, Drew Miale and his wife Kristin of Kennebunk, Maine, and Clay Miale of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; daughter, Jill Miale of Cleveland, Ga.; two grandsons, Sam and Alex Miale; two brothers, Dr. Thomas Miale of Knoxville, Tenn., and Dr. Harry Miale of McMurray; sister, Amy Miller and her husband Paul of Roanoke, Va.; brother-in-law, Wayne Laughlin and his wife Kelly of St. Charles, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews. Inurnment will take place in the family plot at Monongahela Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Area Humane Society, P.O.
