Betty Jayne Gillingham Thompson, 97, of Mt. Lebanon and formerly of Elizabeth, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Asbury Heights. She was a retired registered nurse at McKeesport Hospital, a graduate of McKeesport Hospital nursing, Class of 1945, and a member of the McKeesport Hospital Nurses Alumni. Born Feb. 16, 1925, in Clairton, she was a daughter of the late Finley and Thelma (McIntosh) Gillingham and wife of the late James Thompson. She is survived by her son, Dr. Jeffrey R. (Brenda) Thompson of Kemah, Texas; four grandchildren, Jil (Michael) Tauch of Upper St. Clair, Nathan (Angela) Thompson of Peters Township, and Lauren and Connor Thompson, both of Kemah, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Gavin, Grahm, Bennett and Eve Tauch, and Jacob and Cooper Thompson; daughter-in-law, Marion Thompson of Peters Township; along with nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James B. Thompson; sister, Colleen Ruffing; and brother, George Gillingham. Friends will be received at PAUL E. BEKAVAC FUNERAL HOME, 221 N. Second Ave., Elizabeth, PA 15037, on Thursday, March 10, 2022, from noon until the hour of service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Kim Grueser officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Township. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do a kind gesture for someone in Betty’s honor.
