Theodore R. ‘Gruby’ Dryer – formerly of Van Voorhis
Theodore R. “Gruby” Dryer, 80, formerly of Van Voorhis, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 2, 2022, at Penn Highlands Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1942, in Pittsburgh, son of John H. and Margaret “Peg” C. Burns Dryer. A veteran, Mr. Dryer served with the U.S. Marines at the beginning of the Vietnam War and was stationed in Okinawa and involved with the Laotian conflict. He worked as a foreman for Patterson Construction in Monongahela for 30 years and was a member of the Laborers Union No. 286 in Brownsville. Surviving are his children, Ted Dryer Jr. (Kim) of Charleroi and Renee Dryer (Dave) of Kissimmee, Fla.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, John W. Dryer of Finleyville, JoAnn Lindley (the late Ron) of Eighty Four, Cathy Dryer of Largo, Fla., Dennis “Blue” Dryer (Anna) of Van Voorhis and Lee Ann Bular (Walter) of Bentleyville; five step-children and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are his first wife, Shirley A. Lorenz Dryer; his second wife, Darlene Lenhart Dryer; and brothers, Robert J. “Plum” Dryer and Donald Dryer. Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2022, at THOMPSON-MARODI FUNERAL HOME INC., 809 Main St., Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022. A procession will follow to Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, with graveside military honors by American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville.
