Dr. Judy Popelas, 73, of Belle Vernon, formerly of Charlottesville, Va., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, in Hallsworth House, Monessen. She was born in North Charleroi on April 2, 1948, to the late Anthony and Alba Galuppo Mallino. She graduated as valedictorian of Monessen High School Class of 1966 and was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her master’s and doctorate degrees. She worked as a software engineer, retiring from General Electric. Judy was also involved with projects with Bell Labs in Holmdale, N.J., and the Institute for Defense Analysis in Alexandria, Va. Judy is survived by her loving son, Daniel Popelas of Rostraver Township, formerly of Virginia; partner in life, Rudolph Joseph Popelas Jr.  of Belle Vernon; two brothers, Anthony Mallino of Del Ray Beach, Fla. and Andrew and his wife Sonny Mallino of Richboro, Pa.; a loving mother-in-law, Janet Popelas; brother-in-law, Greg and wife Gina Popelas; sisters-in-law, Adele Boone, Joan and her husband Mike Lowe and Janet and Ken Jones. Per her wishes, there will be no public viewing or visitation. ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue, Monessen, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
