Stanley “Jap” Raymond, 88, of North Belle Vernon, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born Nov. 18, 1933, in North Charleroi, he was the son of the late Stanley “Bugs” and Ruth Ella Askins Raymond. A resident of Belle Vernon for the past 60 years, Mr. Raymond was a member of The Bible Chapel Church in Pricedale. Mr. Raymond started as a deck hand, then retired as a pilot from U.S. Steel Clairton Works, where he worked on river boats for over 50 years. Stanley played and coached for many fast-pitch softball teams for many years, coached the Belle Vernon Colts and Thoroughbreds baseball teams, was a former member of the East Belle Vernon Athletic Association and was an avid Pitt fan. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Thorson Raymond, to whom he was married for 66 years; four children, Stanley Joseph Raymond and wife Deanna of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Cheryl Marie Chaussinand and husband Larry of Avalon, Pa., Ronald Douglas Raymond and friend Lisa Kassler of North Belle Vernon, and Kit Susan and husband E.B. Leyda of Belle Vernon; 10 grandchildren, Rachelle (Jason) Nutt, Randi Raymond and fiancé Neil Schneider, Zachary (Samantha) Raymond, Logan Raymond, Alyssa (Camden) White, Craig (Rebakah) Chaussinand, Matthew (Cindy) Chaussinand, Joshua (Julia) Chaussinand, Jesse (Kouri) Leyda and Jacob Leyda; 13 great-grandchildren, Nevaeha Bailey, Zoey Bailey, Brody Schneider, Abigail Chaussinand, Noah Chaussinand, Michael Chaussinand, Caitlyn Chaussinand, Gracy Baker, Parker Leyda, Averi Nutt, Andrew Raymond, Claire Raymond and Owen Raymond. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Elaine Doyle; brother, John Raymond; and daughter-in-law, Susan Raymond. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC, with Alan Booth of The Bible Chapel Church, Pricedale, officiating.
