Mary L. Spiker Plewniak – Fairhope

Mary L. Spiker Plewniak, 90, of Fairhope, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, surrounded by her family in her home.  A daughter of the late William and Goldie Nolan Perney, she was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on April 16, 1931. She was a member of Marion Presbyterian Church, and she was employed for 25 years at G.C. Murphy Company. Mary, also known as “Baba,” was an avid reader and enjoyed shopping. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Elmer C. and Becky Spiker, Jr. of Belle Vernon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and William Cole of Daytona Beach, Fla., Diane and Rick Johnston of Belle Vernon, and Debra and Thomas Tunney of Belle Vernon; 10 grandchildren, Jodee (Mike) Faryna, Jeremy (Kristen) Ortolona, Carlee (Bob) Hovanec, Jacob (Mindy) Ortolona, John Yetsconish, Darcy (Jeff) Fearer, Jim (Brooke) Spiker, Emalee Tunney and companion Mary, Mollee Tunney and companion Joey, and Elmer C. Spiker III; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Lamey of Monessen and Clara (Gerald) Wiltz of West Virginia; a brother, Russell (Mavis) Perney of Monessen; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Perney and Gail Perney, both of Belle Vernon; and a special friend, Beth Dillon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer C. Spiker Sr., on June 16, 1986; her second husband, Walter J. Plewniak, on March 12, 2011; a sister, Verna Frame; and three brothers, Robert, Henry and Stanley Perney. The family would like to thank ViaQuest Hospice care for the outstanding compassion and care. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Robert Prinkey officiating, followed by interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fayette Friends of Animals, 223 Searight Herbert Road, Uniontown, PA 15401 or the Rostraver Public Library.
