Thomas L. Bakaitus Sr., 81, of Monongahela, passed away on Feb. 15, 2022, in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. Tom was born in Charleroi on June 5, 1940, son of the late Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Harrison Bakaitus. He graduated from Charleroi High School in 1958 and worked for many years as a parts manager until his retirement from Tregembo Ford in Bentleyville. A devoted member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church (formerly St. Mary’s Episcopal Church) in Charleroi, Tom was a family man who enjoyed watching classic movies, woodworking and having breakfast every Wednesday with his friends. Surviving are three sons, Thomas L. (Elizabeth) Bakaitus Jr. of Pittsburgh, David W. (Brenda) Bakaitus and Daniel J. (Marcy) Bakaitus of Rostraver Township; one daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary A. (Thomas) Trunzo of Monongahela; grandchildren, Toni (Daniel) Toscano, Ashley and Sarah Bakaitus, Joshua (Ashley) Bakaitus and Noah, Sierra and Paige Trunzo; a great-grandson, Donovan Toscano; a sister-in-law, Connie Uhutch of Charleroi; and many other special extended family members. Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Elizabeth Young Bakaitus, who died Aug. 27, 2000; and two sisters, Betty Smereczniak and Patricia Bakaitus. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday Feb. 19, 2022, at which time a service will begin with Father Robert Hanna officiating. Hors d’oeuvres will be available at the Slavic Club in North Charleroi after the service. Interment will take place at a later date in Old West Church Cemetery, Coal Center. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be made to St, Mary’s Anglican Church in Charleroi. Condolences can be made online at marshallmarrafuneralhome.com.
