Mary Alice Popelas, 94, of Roscoe, passed away on Monday, Feb. 14, 2022, at Allegheny General Hospital. She was born in Roscoe on April 10, 1927, daughter of Walter J. and Margaret Flint Moluski Sr. Mary was retired from California Area School District, where she was a teacher’s aide. She was a reporter for the former Roscoe Ledger and worked as the bookkeeper for the former The Company Store in Roscoe as well. Mary was a lifetime member of the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Roscoe and a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon. She enjoyed building jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, computer games, crocheting afghans, the beach, boating in the mountains and especially spending time with her family. Mary is survived by five children, Patricia (Matthew) Guerra Bowman of Charleston, S.C., Edwin (Kathy) Popelas Jr. of Irwin, Carol (Vincent) Babich of Kane, Ronald (Lori) Popelas of Gahanna, Ohio, and Michael J. (Dawn) Popelas of Roscoe; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Moluski Jr. of Elco; and her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and John Timlin of Long Branch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin John Popelas, on June 12, 2019; and her sister-in-law, Virginia Moluski. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, at MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES INC. 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, with the Rev. Micheal J. Crookston officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery Carroll Township. Online condolences may be expressed at www.melenyzer.com.
