Charles E. ‘Snuffy’ Smith – Donora

Charles E. “Snuffy” Smith, 67, of Donora, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Augusta, Ga., on April 26, 1954, son of the late James W. Smith and Tamara Laun Smith, who survives and resides in Fallowfield Township. Snuffy had a love for baseball and was a longtime coach for Donora Youth Baseball, where he cared for the fields for many years and was an advocate for the league and its youth. During his tenure with Donora Youth Baseball, he proudly coached his son and grandson. He was a member of the former Donora Elks. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles E. Smith Jr.; two sisters, Jane Hnatik and Tamara McKosky; a brother, Robert W. Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Frank Hnatik and Gerald McKosky. In addition to his mother, surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Debra L. Kassa Smith; two children, Justin (Shellie) Smith of Eighty-Four and Kaley (Jarrod) Madison of Monessen; grandchildren, Amiya Law, Anthony Law Jr., Amauri Law, Addyson Smith and Mila Smith, who were the light of his life; a sister, Olga Smith of Fallowfield Township; a brother, Jimmy (Carol) Smith of Lynnwood; a sister in-law, Penny Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022. A service will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, with the Rev. Jude Urso officiating. Interment will follow at St. Dominic Cemetery, Donora. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Donora Youth Baseball Association. To be socially responsible during this time of the increase in COVID-19 cases due to the new variants, we will continue to require guests to obey social distancing guidelines and personal protection guidelines which include masks within the funeral home.
