Glenn A. ‘Poe’ Porter – Monongahela
Glenn A. “Poe” Porter, 93 of Monongahela, passed away on Feb. 3, 2022, in his home. Glenn was born in Eighty Four on Nov. 15, 1928, son of the late George and Mina B. Stewart Porter. He graduated from Monongahela High school in 1946 and then joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War as a tank driver in the 2nd Armored Tank Division (Hell on Wheels). After returning home, Poe began working for the former Mississippi Glass until its closing and then Consol Energy until his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 949 in Carroll Township, the Monongahela VFW and a former member of various social clubs around the Valley. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds and was always proud to say he played softball into his 60s. He is survived by two sons, Glenn E. Porter of Monongahela and Steven (Teresa) Porter of Blades, Del.; three daughters, Vickie Granchi of South Park, Tammy (James) Sinclair of Victory Hill and Sonia Porter of Monongahela; a brother and sister-in-law, Clyde (Wilma) Porter of Charleroi; seven grandchildren, Glenn A. (Rikki) Porter II; Deanna Sinclair, Brian Porter, Kayla (Andrew) Wolney, and Stephanie, Joshua and Kaylie Porter; six great-grandchildren, Aiden Muccino-Porter, Tyler Sinclair, Justin and Waylan Warren and Chloe and Ansleigh Porter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Smitley Porter, who died Sept. 6, 2018; a son-in-law, Gary Granchi, who passed Dec. 14, 2011; and a sister, Gladys Irene Porter. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2022. It will conclude with services conducted by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
