Sophia ‘Sally’ Choban Kosh – Monessen

By obits

Sophia “Sally” Choban Kosh, 99, of Monessen, passed peacefully in her sleep Jan. 25, 2022, at Mon Valley Care Center in Monongahela. Beloved daughter of John and Anna Choban, she was born in Monessen on Feb. 16, 1922, and resided there until she was 82 years old, when she moved into the Char House in Charleroi. We lost our own “Betty White.” She was the lifeline of our family: caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor, and a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church Monessen. Her faith in God gave her the strength and courage to keep going. In her final days, she still had that gentle spirit for everyone. We will always remember her jokes and the stories she would tell. Oh how she loved her family. Whether you’d get a call on Sunday morning or any time of the week, or if we would call her and she would answer, “Hello somebody.” We were so blessed to have her in our lives, a life well lived. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Choban; her husband, William Andrew Kosh; two brothers, John and Mike Choban; two sisters, Mary Smolen and Ann Adamson; and a son-in-law, Richard Bastin. Sally is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Irma Borsevich Kosh of Rostraver Township; daughter, MaryAnn Bastin of Charleroi; son, Robert Kosh and IU of Vanderbilt; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Nick Savage of Monessen; son, Michael “Mickey” Kosh of Strolls Acres, Pa.; as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. At the request and wishes of Sally, there will be no visitation and the family will hold a private celebration of life in her honor. The family wishes memorial contributions be made to Vision Services of Washington – Greene, 566 E. Maiden St., Washington, PA 15301, 724-228-0770. MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St. Monongahela, 724-258-6767 was in charge of the arrangements. Condolences can be made online at marshallmarrafuneralhome.com.
