She was born Sept. 18, 1928, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Michael Tedesco and the late Margaret (DeRoss) Tedesco. Rita was a devout Catholic. She had a passion for cooking and baking and always had a sweet treat for doctors, nurses, office staff or any visitor that happened to stop by to see her. She was a member of the St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Donora, the Carroll Township Ladies Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America No. 337, the Donora Seniors and the former OLV Women’s Guild. Rita worked many years as a secretary for the Ringgold School District and later as an administrative assistant for the Washington County Area Agency on Aging. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Tedesco; and a sister, Theresa Popielarski. Surviving to cherish her memory are three sons, Paul (Noreen) Urko of South Carolina, Mark Urko of South Carolina and Keith (Diane) Urko of Carroll Township; five grandchildren, Jacqueline Urko Davis (Kevin), Christina Urko Payne (Christopher), Elizabeth Urko Hogrefe (David), Andrew Urko and Rita Urko; six great-grandchildren, Ayden Payne, Elsie Payne, Charles Davis, Lena Davis, Camille Davis and Julia Davis; her loving caregiver, Renee Bates, who cared for her for many years; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANTHONY L. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Friday at 11:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish Donora Campus with Rev. Father Joseph Uzar celebrating at noon. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township. Rita’s family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of their mother.
