Marie ‘Mert’ Greco Palucis – Donora

By obits

Marie “Mert” Greco Palucis, 87, of Donora, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 12, 1934, daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Costa Greco. She was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. Marie based her life around her family and friends and would give the shirt off her back to anyone or the curtains off the windows. Her home was GRAND CENTRAL STATION to family, neighbors and anyone who entered the ALLEY, or her home for coffee, homemade pasta or a game of nickel dime poker. In the world of Greco Competitive Cooking, she was one of the best! Everyone LOVED Mert. Her sense of humor, her fearlessness, her kindness, her ability to forgive and her support for the underdog was unmatched. If you knew Mert you had an ally, someone in your corner, for life. In addition to her parents, Mert was preceded in death by five sisters, Virginia Greco, Carolyn Flack, Geraldine Rodorigio, Yolanda McCarthy and Jean Gilmore; and two brothers, James Greco Jr. and William Greco. Surviving to cherish her memory are her five children, Frank (Karen) Dzik of Kingwood, Texas, Bob (Lois) Dzik of Houston, Texas, Andrea (Jeff) Mascara of Pittsburgh, Sue Dzik of Upper St. Clair and Deb (Clint) Chisholm of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Allyson, Jake, Daniel, Nicole, Justin, Heather, Camden, Dylan and Jesse; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rose Simpson, Rita Garde and Joanne Hackinson; Al Garde and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, followed by a noon Mass of Christian burial at the Donora Campus of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. To be socially responsible during this time of the increase in COVID-19 cases due to the new variants, we will continue to require guests to obey social distancing guidelines and personal protection guidelines which include masks within the funeral home.
