George Mazur, 85, of Monessen, passed away on Dec. 29, 2021, at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. He was born on May 14, 1936, to Nicholas and Stella Polomackanich Mazur in Monessen. He was a graduate of Monessen High School, Class of 1954 and attended Penn State University for mechanical engineering. He was a United States Army veteran and during his service he spent most of his time in Ft. Knox, Ky., where he played with 113th and 158th post Army bands. After his service, he worked for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel as a carpenter for 10 years, then for Combustion Engineering where he had various jobs, but retired as a foundry inspector after 21 years. During his retirement, George went to work for The Valley Independent where he did various jobs and also had other side jobs as a woodworker. He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church Monessen, the Monessen Ukrainian Club, Monessen Eagles, Pricedale Russian Club and Belle Vernon Legion Post No. 659. George is survived by a sister, Helen (Joseph) Wujcik of Monessen; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his seven brothers, Andrew, Frank, John, Pete, Paul, Steve and Michael Mazur; and four sisters, Ann Pohlot-Clark, Mary Mastracci, Elsie Dudas and Evelyn Mazur. Friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, at ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue, Monessen. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Father Constantine Curchin officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Monessen, 17 Reed Ave., Monessen, PA 15062. Online condolences can be made at www.billicksfuneralhome.com.
